An immature White Ibis and although the body, legs, face and bill are similar to the adults the plumage is differently colored. Juvenile White Ibis are generally brown and creamy white from July through December and during the month of December white feathers begin to appear on their backs, this young bird was photographed in the Everglades in Florida.

The immature white ibis has a body covered with patches of brown and white and legs are more pinkish.

During times of ancient Egyptian dominance in Northern Africa, the ibis was recognized as the spirit of learning and wisdom. During the 5th century B.C. killing an ibis was a crime punishable by death.
