A young monkey being held in it's mothers arms protectively.

There is much more to the mother/infant relationship than milk and that this "contact comfort" is essential to the psychological development and health of infant monkeys. Nursing strengthens the mother-child bond because of the intimate body contact that it provides.

There is a direct, positive relationship between the amount of contact and grooming an infant monkey receives during its first six months of life.
