Pollen Basket
Insects, Arachnids, Reptiles & Amphibians

Available

A european bee with his hind legs loaded with pollen on a Passiflora flower .

The pollen basket or corbicula is part of the tibia on the hind legs of certain species of bees. They use the structure in harvesting pollen and returning it to the nest or hive.

When they have a full load, they hustle back to the colony with the goods and a steady stream, of bees swoop onto the landing area of the hive and line up to enter the buzzing sanctuary, arriving with pink, yellow, and orange baggage on their hind legs—colorful deliveries of pollen.
