Sanibel is a shrimp-shaped island located off the coast of Fort Myers in Southwest Florida. The East end of Sanibel includes six miles of sea turtle nesting habitat from the bayside of the Sanibel Lighthouse to Tarpon Bay Road. Sanibel Island East is an index beach and is divided into six zones designated by FWC. Each zone is walked and monitored daily for nesting activity from May through October.
