The lion is a species in the cat family; it is a muscular, deep-chested cat with a short, rounded head, a reduced neck and round ears, and a hairy tuft at the end of its tail. Lions are most active at night and live in a variety of habitats but prefer grassland, savanna, dense scrub, and open woodland.
